| Scottish Tele-Orthodontic Project (STOP)
AxSys Technology has been selected as the supplier for the Scottish Tele-Orthodontic Project (STOP) covering the Highlands & Islands and Dumfries & Galloway regions. The Excelicare platform will provide Orthodontic Video Conferencing capabilities incorporating structured data capture and transfer across the nine identified sites in the West of Scotland. Dental practises in Benbecula, Fort William and Stornoway will be linked to the Consultant Orthodontist at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. Dental practices in Stranraer (2) and Newton Stewart (2) will be linked to the Consultant Orthodontist at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary.
Implementation of the system will result in the following tangible benefits to both patients and dentists: |
 | Enables clinical audit and governance |
 | Secure, patient-centred EPR |
 | Ability to enter data through structured and unstructured forms |
 | Ability to transfer confidential patient information securely |
 | Reduction in time spent travelling/unnecessary trips between sites |
 | Reduction in the cost, time and effort incurred by off-line data entry and replication |
The project will utilise Excelicare's comprehensive Electronic Patient Record (EPR) functionality to capture, store, send, receive and merge clinical data and multimedia items into the patients' record. In addition Excelicare's secure, encrypted email functionality will enable the staff to send and receive confidential, patient-specific data and merge it directly into the relevant patient record with the greatest of ease, ensuring that patient data is immediately saved and available to the appropriate staff.
