Cancer Patient Information System
more details
The Gynaecological MCN for the West of Scotland was established in 2000 to ensure the highest standard of care for all patients with gynaecological cancers across the region. This was to be achieved by enhancing the referral system for specialist opinion and treatment, encouraging a multidisciplinary approach and educating all clinicians involved in the care of these patients by open discussion and debate. Participants would include medical & clinical oncologists, gynaecologists, radiologists and pathologists.

A weekly videoconference was instituted to enable clinicians from across the region to participate in discussions on their patients. Excelicare was procured as a key component of this process.

Objectives:
Ensure all relevant data is captured and available for discussion (including pathology and radiology media, relevant lab results).
Easily and rapidly review current and previous information on the patient.
Display anonymised patient information to all sites during the videoconference.
Record patient data in real time during the conference and generate automated patient summary reports to all clinicians immediately after.
Report on all clinical data and activity.
Manage the creation of lists of patients to be discussed each week and automate the process of sending these lists to all clinicians.
Manage details of all MCN clinicians.
Link to all the sites' Patient Administration Systems (PAS) to get patient registration data.
Link to a number of laboratory systems for immediate access to lab results.
Link to a number of radiology stores (PACS) to get patients' scans nand radiology images.
Link to Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy systems to get data on these treatments.

Excelicare has met all these objectives and today forms an essential part of the MCN process, benefiting patients by ensuring that they are referred and seen without delay, that they receive specialist care regardless of geography, and that all clinicians involved in their care participate in establishing and reviewing their care plans. Clinicians benefit from the support they receive from their colleagues and the increase in knowledge gained from the cross speciality discussions.
