What is Excelicare?
Designed by healthcare providers for healthcare providers, the AxSys toolset of technologies, referred to generically as Excelicare, has been used to develop and implement working solutions covering many areas of care. Current implementations span complex cancer care across a region-wide network to the remote monitoring of drug compliance in elderly patients living at home. These are examples of what can be achieved with Excelicare and not a reflection of any limitation in its scope. The toolset platform utilises extensive communication technologies such as video-conferencing, interactive voice response telephony and email, as well as technology to handle rich multi-media content including DICOM standard images.
A friendly and functionally rich electronic patient record forms a base platform module to which a variety of modules, including telemedicine technologies, can be added, allowing the system to grow with the increasing requirements of the user. The base platform comprises problem lists, progress notes, laboratory results, and media items such as images (supports DICOM3 standard), audio and video. A Designer Toolkit enables the creation of clinical modules, which include sophisticated data capture forms, summary documents, letters and charts. Additional modules for multidisciplinary collaboration and management can be plugged in as required. All these plug-in modules are seamlessly integrated into the electronic patient record platform.

Can Excelicare incorporate site/discipline-specific form sets, letters, guidelines etc?
Yes. The Forms Library provides a mechanism for adding, cataloguing, managing and searching for special forms, charts, letters and other documents in the application. Excelicare comes with a powerful Designer toolkit that allows for the creation of any kind of internal documents/data sets that are all classified and accessed through the Library. External documents including Word, PDF and HTML documents can also be added to the Library, providing a flexible and expandable knowledge base.
TOP
Can I generate reports from Excelicare?
Yes. All data items in Excelicare can be reported upon with automated reporting facilities available in the application. The reporting module in Excelicare is comprehensive with the capability to create standard formatted reports designed by the user.
TOP
Can I interface to other system such as PAS, prescribing systems etc?
Yes, through Exceliport our integration engine.
Exceliport is customisable to suit the feeding system. The underlying Exceliport engine utilises standard mechanisms and a Package Definition File to identify key elements of the interface, including feed-file delivery rules, format definitions, data-mapping definitions and data-matching algorithms.
Exceliport utilises current standards (e.g. HL7, NHS Data Dictionaries, XML) as well as supporting legacy delimited feed-files and report-based systems, and addresses the issues of cross-mapping different underlying dictionaries (e.g. Consultant/GP lists, Location lists, coded data such as Ethnic Group, etc.) and data matching based on varying degrees of inconsistency in the fields captured by different systems.
TOP
Can Excelicare accept input from a variety of different sources such as medical devices, touch screens, barcode readers etc?
Yes. Mouse, touch screens, microphones, document scanners, medical devices (e.g. digital stethoscopes) and the telephone can all be used as input devices.
TOP
Does Excelicare support the use of portable devices?
Yes. Excelicare fully supports the use of wireless technology such as WiFi and GPRS communication. It is currently being used on Tablet PCs supporting both WiFi and GPRS technology. Excelicare will support the use of PDAs in particular settings. (e.g. data capture in a special form, reviewing summary documents, reviewing lab results etc)
TOP
Does Excelicare have e-mail capabilities?
Yes. The secure, encrypted Store & Forward email module enables clinicians to send and receive confidential, patient-specific data and merge it directly into the patient record with the greatest of ease.
TOP
Does Excelicare come with a full audit-trail?
Yes. A complete audit trail of changes made to the patient record is maintained by the system. Any new or changed record must be signed, and the history of Sign-offs can be viewed. Users can thus view the historical versions of the Patient Record as they were on any previous date.
TOP
Does Excelicare have VC capabilities?
Yes. Excelicare VC (Video Conference) incorporates the top of the range, award-winning VCON Monitor 3000 Codec with a proven worldwide track record for performance, durability and reliability. While it is as robust as any set top system, its seamless integration into the patient record means that the patient context is always maintained and the patient record immediately available. Excelicare may also be used with other commercially available VC equipment.

What is Excelicare Direct?
Excelicare Direct is a dynamic, interactive Voice Response (IVR) based, patient self-monitoring module linked directly to the patient record. This may be used to monitor patients more closely and to administer a variety of questionnaires that may be completed by patients or their carers over the telephone. The questionnaires can be created using the Script Designer, and responses to questionnaires can be logged directly into forms in the patients' records. Alerts generated by this module may be routed automatically to appropriate clinicians using a variety of communication means such as email, SMS and pager messages. This enables efficient and safe management of patients in the community or home.
